It will not be with us for a long. And honestly, I’m OK with that. This bar is just OK-ish and I wouldn’t make a drama when it’s gone by the end of July 2020.
We haven’t been reviewing much of the Flavour of the Months protein bars from VIVE. Just three regular flavours, Salted Caramel, Hazelnut and Peanut Butter. Plus, Mint Chocolate from October 2019. But it will change from now. I’ll do my best to make regular reviews of the Flavours of the Month of VIVE protein snack bars. And here it is, the one for July 2020, VIVE Vanilla Crunch protein snack bar.
I can’t say anything wrong about the smell of this VIVE snack bar. The vanilla aroma is easily detectable in it and it’s strong enough to make it protein snack inviting. I could say the same about the texture of it, as it’s pretty softish throughout. The thing is, however, I stumbled upon a toughish peanut or almond with my very first bite, so it wasn’t the best first meeting. Still, the bar is somewhat comfortable to eat and its moistness is OK.
This flavour needs some improvement for sure, but it’s still pretty nice and pleasant at this stage.
Yes, there is an almond flavour nicely and easily detectable and I liked it. However, it goes along with a bit of pea protein aroma. It’s not too strong, but it’s noticeably. And it flattens the flavour a bit. It makes it a bit bland and not as flavourish as it could be. Still, it’s not too disturbing here. Also, the bar itself is middling sweet and it may make its way as a sweet and satisfying protein snack.
However, I’m not too sure I would want to eat two of these VIVE protein snacks in one sitting. And the reason for that is macros, which could be a bit better.
A medium-sized, 50g bar packs 225kcal and only 8.7g (17%) of protein. Also, there’s as much as 11g of sugar. And 14g of fat if you’re after this specific value. Also, the ingredients list could be a bit better, as it contains (organic) cane sugar. The bar, obviously, is gluten-free and vegan-friendly.
There’s a potential in this protein snack.
And I would be ready to buy more of them. However, to do that, it would have to improve its flavour and macros. And its texture could be a bit better too. Oh, and these ingredients. Oh, well, it looks like we’ve got a problem (and too many requests) here?
Would I buy it again? At that stage, I would NOT.
