Is plenty no plague? I don’t think so. And with this energy bar, Veloforte proves it wrong. It’s not a bad bar after all, but there are too many flavours in it.
It may seem to be strange, as it’s (nearly) all about a good taste. And that’s the catch. A good or great taste doesn’t mean ‘many of them’. All right, sometimes it’s good to have more flavours than less, like with Veloforte CLASSICO Citrus energy bar. But generally, as they say, less is more. And this time it wasn’t followed here. Unfortunately.
Veloforte has its own style when it comes to energy bars. The leading name plus three different ingredients. Here we’ve got PRONTO + figs, pistachios and matcha tea. And as figs and matcha tea aromas are easily noticeable in its smell, then you can barely find pistachios here. Anyway, this scent is lovely and inviting, so I couldn’t wait to bite into it. However, it wasn’t too easy, as this snack is somewhat toughish, or rather gooey on both outside and inside. That means it’s middling comfortable to eat and chew. In other words, it’s remarkable chewy and it sticks to the teeth. Therefore, a sip or two may come in handy. It’s nothing to be too comfortable after all.
And it wouldn’t be so bad, eventually, but something went slightly wrong when it comes to the taste of this energy bar.
It looks like Veloforte wanted to pack here as many flavours as they could. So here we’ve got flavours of figs, ginger, matcha tea, mixed nuts and mixed spices. And I’m still not sure these are all of them. Am I the only one that thinks it’s way too many of them for a single bar? That makes this bar sweet, but not too tasty. And it’s not satisfying too. It’s slightly disappointing actually.
Oh, and last, but not least. They write on the package of this bar ‘pistachios’. But when you look at the ingredients list, you’ll find there ‘mixed nuts’ with 17% of almonds and only 6% of pistachios. That means nearly three times more almond than pistachios. And I don’t think it’s fair.
The latter one is not the reason here, but after one serving I’m not fancy another one. All of that because it was just OK and that composition of flavours was exaggerated.
The macros of this energy bar are not perfect either. 273 kcal for a single 70g bar is a bit too much. The same as 8.7g of fat and 6g of protein. 45.1g of carbs is, however, right on the spot. For a change, the ingredients list is OK, as there’s no palm fat in it.
Can it be the finest energy bar on the go? Not actually. Too many calories, too much of fat and protein and that exaggerated taste.
80mg of natural caffeine? Sounds good, but a regular coffee is natural one too, right?
Veloforte PRONTO Caffeine Energy Bar is just a mediocre refuel snack, unfortunately. In theory, it’s appealing. But in practice, it’s slightly exaggerated. It has too many flavours in itself, it could be more comfortable to eat, and it’s not a pure energy bar after all. It’s not bad, definitely, but I can’t imagine eating it after, let’s say, 10 km of running. It could be some kind of pain. And if you need some extra caffeine as a boost, a double espresso could be much better than this.
Will I ever go back to this energy bar? I don’t think so. It’s ‘a bit’ exaggerated and not perfect after all. And this is not necessary, as, for example, High5 with its Berry energy bar shows.
