This bar should be called ‘Raspberry Sweetcake’, it’s that sweet. But, that being said, it doesn’t linger in your mouth for too long. They definitely didn’t skimp on the crispies either!
USN has already produced a few bars for their new TRUST Crunch range. However, they all seem to have the same elements – a lot of crunches and not too much flavour. Take their Salted Caramel Peanut bar for example and that’s exactly the same, lacking that crucial element. A flavour you want to come back to. They have also decided to advertise as ‘guilt-free’, which we all know doesn’t exist. So it’s just a marketing con which unfortunately some people fall for! This bar is however clearly marked as ‘suitable for vegetarians’, which is super obvious on the front of the wrapper and would make it easy to spot quickly, brownie points for this.
There is an obvious raspberry and white chocolate smell about this protein bar and the smell is pleasant and inviting. The outside is nice and firm, yet not too hard, while the white chocolate coating does crush as you squeeze it between your fingers. There is no struggle to bite this bar as it almost gives way between your teeth, yet those crispy pieces allow it to hold some of its firmness and shape. This is a sticky protein bar, but I like that. I’d much rather have a sticky bar than a dry one!
Ruby red raspberry flowing under bright white chocolate. This is a definite eye-catching colour combination which works in its favour!
As I mentioned before, this bar could be called ‘Raspberry Sweetcake’ due to its super sweet flavour. This flavour doesn’t linger in your mouth or leave too much of a taste of sweeteners, but it doesn’t make me want to come running back for more. Although it does taste of raspberries, they aren’t shouting out at me and you can tell they aren’t the natural raspberries we all know and love! That being said, the white chocolate, which covers this bar, actually tastes of chocolate which is hard to find and it is decently thick too! Apart from the raspberry flavour, which is too sweet, this bar is comfortable to eat.
This USN TRUST Crunch Raspberry Cheesecake protein bar is too sweet for me to be able to consume another straight away. I did take my time eating it and it was pleasant, just a little overpoweringly sweet, I think they definitely need a little less on the artificial raspberry in order to make this bar a tasty one.
Also, I can’t see an issue with the macros. Yes, their protein may be classed as a little low, but only 2g less than the 20g we all like to see. Although their carb content is high, USN has managed to keep a low sugar content (which I think is more important)! A 60g USN TRUST Crunch Raspberry Cheesecake protein bar packs 216kcal, 8.4g fat, 23g carbs, 2.5g sugars and a decent 18g protein. Add that to the fact they haven’t used palm oil, any added sugars or syrups and instead they’ve used natural flavourings, I’d say they were some damn good ingredients too!
Too much false raspberry, but a decent amount of crunch. Only your typical average protein bar, I’m afraid.
This USN TRUST Crunch Raspberry Cheesecake protein bar is decent in size, macros and ingredients. However, it lacks that vital element a protein bar needs in order for customers to come running back, the flavour! It’s over sweet, which is a shame, because I think the crispy pieces in this bar are great compared to the rest of the market. Sorry, not this time USN, you’ve created yet another average protein bar in your TRUST Crunch range!
Will I be consuming this USN TRUST Crunch Raspberry Cheesecake protein bar again? Personally not. It’s just not unique and if I’m going to spend my money and my macros on a protein bar, it’s better to be worth it! Unfortunately, this isn’t.
