You don’t have to love Halloween to fell in love with this protein bar. It packs Pumpkin Spice aroma in the form of a bar. And although it’s lovely and delicious in taste, it might also be a challenge for some. Not only when it comes to its texture.
No matter what you think about RXBARs, they have a couple of things in common. One of them is they’re available in the UK in a limited number of flavours, specifically in Sea Salt, Peanut Butter & Berries, Coconut Chocolate and Peanut Butter flavours only. And to find any other of them (and there is many of them, like ten different at least!), you have to hunt for them. So far we have haunted a pretty nice Lemon flavour. This time, we’ve got a limited edition of Pumpkin Spice. Right on time for Halloween celebration! How it goes then?
First things first. This is not Pumpkin flavour, this is Pumpkin Spice flavour. And this makes a difference, a bit. Anyway, the smell of this protein bar is lovely. There’s an aroma of pumpkin spice and (perhaps, barely detectable) pumpkin alone easily detectable. It’s deep, it’s rich and it’s highly inviting. However, as always with RXBARs, its texture is not perfect. The bar is only softish both on the outside and inside. Therefore, it could be more effortless to bite into it. Also, as always, it’s decently chewy and really sticky. And that’s the reason you shouldn’t approach it without a sip. Well, the texture is something that RXBARs must work on.
This is brave – a flavour of spices, not a flavour itself.
This might be both a bit confusing and refreshing. Because who the hell wants to make a protein bar with the flavour of spices? On the other hand, it’s a pretty versatile flavour, as you can find it in many products, especially at the end of every year. So what it’s like? Well, pretty good, indeed.
The flavour of this protein bar is sharp, rich, deep and intense. And that’s pretty surprising. There is a lovely and pleasant aroma of pumpkin spices in it. All right, it might be not in everyone’s liking. But if you’re into that mood, then you’ll like it for sure. Primarily, there’s no weird aroma or aftertaste. And if that’s something you’re looking for, then this is it, you can’t miss it.
Do I want another serving of this RXBAR Pumpkin Spice bar right after the first one? Nearly. It was delicious and enjoying. But as always, I hate struggling with my food and this is what we’ve got here. Therefore, one RXBAR at a time is enough for me.
When it comes to macros, it’s a bit confusing. With 210 kcal, 8g of fat and 24g of carbs (including 14g of naturally occurring sugar) it a pretty nice macro wise bar. However, I’m not too sure 12g of protein justifies to call it a protein bar. It’s rather a proteinish one. Anyway, the ingredients list contains only eight ingredients, including dates, egg whites, cashews, almonds, cinnamon, natural flavours, pumpkin and cloves. That’s it, nothing else. And that’s what I like in this bar. No B.S.
Lovely and tasty, with a limited audience. And in a limited edition.
I have no doubt RXBAR Pumpkin Spice Protein Bar is not for everyone. You must like Pumpkin Spice (not only Pumpkins!) to appreciate this flavour. However, if you do, then this might become your favourite Pumpkin-like bar. I’m only not too sure if it’ll make it as a protein bar. Anyway, if you have an opportunity, then it’s well worth to give it a try.
Will I ever go back to this RXBAR Pumpkin Spice bar? If only its texture was a bit better, then I would say ‘YES!’. Especially now, at the end of the year. However, the ease of eating of all RXBARs we reviewed so far (and more are on the way!) puts me off a bit. And this is what you should be aware before you’ll give a shot any of them, including this one.
P.S. Too bad it’s not available in the UK (similarly to the Lemon flavour).
