I’m not sure it’s a proper protein bar. But with this flavour, it’s definitely a tasty and highly palatable one. If 19g of sugar is not a problem for you, then this might be a great bar before or after your workout, crispy and full of flavours.
Out of (already) three PowerPlus 30% ProteinPlus bars we reviewed so far, this one is the tastiest one. The other one, Vanilla Coconut flavour, turned out to be a bit weird. For a change, Vanilla Caramel Crisp flavour is a pretty good one. However, looking at their ingredients and sugar content… Well, these are definitely not proper protein bars. Particularly, when they contain more added sugar(!) than protein. Oops, it happens. Anyway, let’s have a look at this (spoiler!) decently sweet and tasty PowerBar 30% ProteinPlus Cappuccino Caramel Crisp Flavour protein bar.
Disappointing. This is the word I would use to sum up the smell of this bar. It has a bit aroma of cappuccino and a bit of bitterness. No caramel whiff at all. Therefore, it’s pretty far from being inviting, but it’s not repelling, though. A softish top and toughish bottom are what we’ll find in the texture of this bar from the outside. From the inside, it’s just a bit softer. Put it together and you’ll get a bar that still is pretty comfortable to eat. No one should have any issue in that matter. Also, it’s moist and that’s what I liked in this bar too.
Cappuccino and caramel waffles in its pocket version.
If you know what cappuccino and caramel waffles taste like, then we’re home. This proteinish bar tastes pretty much the same. There’s an easily detectable cappuccino flavour with an addition of caramel. And it’s nicely crispy. That combination is decently sweet (but still, not too sweet) and tasty. Also, there’s no weird aroma or aftertaste, letting to enjoy this bar fully. That’s why it would be pretty hard to find someone who would say it’s not a satisfying proteinish bar.
Am I fancy another serving of this PowerBar 30% ProteinPlus bar right after the first one? If I only didn’t know its macros, then I would say ‘yes, please!’. However, these macros are not impressing, to say it somewhat diplomatic.
A 55g bar contains pretty reasonable 220 kcal and 7g of fat. Also, 23g of carbs shouldn’t be a significant issue. However, as much as 19g of sugar and only 17g of protein is a bit disappointing. And it makes it pretty hard to call it a proper protein bar for sure. Also, the ingredients list is nothing worth to brag, as it contains added sugar, palm fat, glucose syrup and inverted sugar syrup.
Therefore, the question of a title of the finest protein bar on the go for this proteinish bar is not relevant here.
A decently sweet and tasty proteinish bar. For a not-so-sweet price.
PowerBar 30% ProteinPlus Cappuccino Caramel Crisp Flavour Protein Bar is definitely sweet and tasty protein bar. There’s no doubt about it. What I’m concerned in this case about is I wouldn’t call it a proper protein bar. Also, it could be ‘a bit’ leaner and its ingredients could be much better. In short: it’s a great bar for your pre- or post-workout. And it’s a terrible one when it comes to being a protein bar.
Will I ever go back to this PowerBar 30% ProteinPlus protein bar? As a protein bar, I definitely will not. However, as a pre- or post-workout snack, while on offer like for £1 per bar, I definitely will.
Or if you’re OK with swapping Cappuccino flavour to Double Espresso flavour, then you can’t miss this The Primal Pantry bar.
