This is a protein bar with great macros. And some not-that-perfect other aspects. What it lacks the most is the taste. In a word – it’s a great performer that is hard to fell in love with.
Don’t get me wrong. I love protein snacks with great macros and (at least) good ingredients. However, that is not enough to become a really good protein snack overall. And OTE already showed us what it should look like with their Dark Chocolate Orange Protein Bar, that scored pretty nice 6.9/10 pts. However, this time with Milk Chocolate Peanut flavour
Basically, there’s no sign that something might go wrong here. This protein bar smells lovely. There are both flavours, milk chocolate and peanut, easily detectable. They’re strong, intense and inviting. A pretty tough on the outside, this protein bar turns out to be somewhat softish on the inside. This means there should be no problem with biting into in. Also, it’s only slightly chewy and a bit sticky. And it may be a bit dryish for some too. However, there should be not a significant issue with the texture of this protein treat.
Bitterish milk chocolate? No, thanks.
This protein bar is not too tasty. BOOM! There are peanuts effortlessly noticeable in the flavour of it. But there’s milk chocolate aroma nowhere to be found here. That makes this protein bar way too bitterish. In other words, the balance of flavours could be much better than it is. Also, this protein bar is not too sweet. And it’s hard to say it’s satisfying in any way.
Therefore, one serving of this OTE Milk Chocolate Peanut bar was more than enough for me.
Good news here are the macros of this OTE bar. A 45g bar delivers only 159 kcal, 4.3g of fat, 11.3g of carbs (including 0.9g of sugar!) and a solid amount of 22.4g of protein. The ingredients list is also worth mentioning, as there are no added sugar, no palm fat, no syrups. Well done.
However, considering the taste of this bar, it can’t be the finest protein bar on the go.
Good in theory, bad in practice.
This OTE Milk Chocolate Peanut Protein Bar has everything to be a pretty good protein bar. Great macros, very good ingredients, interesting flavour and so on. The problem is, its flavour is not what we could expect. At least, it’s not what I expected. As far as I can remember, milk chocolate doesn’t taste bitterish in any way, right? And that’s what we’ve got here.
Will I ever go back to this OTE protein bar? I don’t think so. Bitterish milk chocolate? Naaah, it’s not what I’m looking for in any (protein) snacks.
