I can see One Pro(blem) with this protein bar. Or even a couple of them. In short, I didn’t fell in love with it. And a noticeable pea protein aroma in it is not the reason for that.
You see, the taste is one of the essential things in protein bars. Eventually, you buy them to indulgence yourself (and add some extra protein to your daily intake). And how to do that with a bar that is not so exciting in taste? And could have slightly better macros, too? That’s why One Pro Nutrition Protein Bar Peanut & Cacao might be not the best option if you’re after a delicious, enjoyable and healthier snack. Here’s why.
I only can say for myself, but I got used to pea protein after all. Yes, it’s not the most exciting aroma out there, but hey – it’s there for a reason. In this protein bar as well. It’s actually full of it. It’s smoothly going along with a touch of peanut aroma, but without any cacao whiff. Therefore, it’s just an OK-ish experience right after unwrapping this protein bar. The bar itself is pretty tough on the outside, being softish while biting into it and chewing. Also, it’s a bit chewy and ‘a bit’ gooier. It’s not a disaster here, but it could be done better. Also, it’s slightly dryish, so you’d better have a sip at hand while eating it. Still, it’s pretty doable after all.
Too much of this, not enough of that. And not much of cacao too. Oh, well…
One of our readers asked us ‘what’s that weird aroma in this protein bar?’. And right after we dug into it, it was pretty clear for us; it’s pea protein (aroma). Yes, some of us are not the greatest fan of that. And I’ve got some important news for them: there’s a lot of pea protein flavour in this protein bar. On the other hand, there’s not much of peanut aroma in it. And if there’s not enough for you, then this is the final punch from this bar – a middling detectable cacao flavour coming from the pretty thick on the top coating of this bar. Oops, it looks like there’s not much to offer in this protein bar. Personally, I don’t think it’s terrible, as it’s not that bad here. However, I didn’t enjoy it. And it wouldn’t make its way as a sweet and satisfying sweet protein snack for me.
That’s why one protein bar of this kind is perfectly fine for me. In other words, I wouldn’t eat another one straight away.
Also, if you’re all about the macros, there’s not even a tiny, little chance for this protein bar. A 57g serving is 233 kcal, 11.3g of fat, 8.5g of carbs (not too bad) and 2.9g of sugar. Add to that an OK-ish 16.9g of protein and you get nothing unusual in this matter. Still, no added sugar, no palm oil and no syrups might be some mitigating circumstances.
Not too flavourish, not too protein packed. With loads of pea protein in flavour.
One Pro Nutrition Protein Bar Peanut & Cacao, cheer up! It’s not that bad. Yes, you’re not a superstar and it’s hard to say ‘I love you’. But hey, you’re not that bad, not that terrible. You’re only another pea protein bar that is not so spectacular, not so flavourish, not so nutrition reach. But that’s still OK, as you’re another one people can choose from.
But the reality is, I won’t be one of them that will choose you next time. Although I’m pretty OK with pea protein.
