Luscious caramel spread across a soft, chewy nougat – this HYPE range is one to check out!
This is the second bar from Oatein’s new HYPE range that I have tried (the previous one was Hazelnutty flavour). So far, both of them have been better than expected (newly released bars are always risky)! I’m not too sure what they were getting at when they decided to advertise ‘guilt-free’ on their wrapper, as for me this only includes food which contains zero calories, ha! Add this to the fact their wrapper is super bright – it definitely grabs your attention, even if some people do struggle to read white text on an orange background, you’ll still spot this wrapper from afar.
There’s no mistaking this Oatein HYPE Salty Caramel bar has a super sweet smell to it, but the good news for you readers is that it actually smells of caramel and not just like sweeteners unline most bars! Some bars are like bricks, some are like clouds. This one settles for a lovely middle-ground and is soft, chewy, sticky and bends as you bite it. It really moulds around your mouth and is a pleasure to chew.
I can’t express how much thick caramel this HYPE range packs! Seriously, any caramel lover’s dream!
This bar definitely lives up to its salty caramel name as there is no mistaking this flavour. It’s rich, moreish and slightly creamy in texture too. That being said, there is a slight aftertaste which can come across as bitter in your mouth, but it’s not massive and most people might be able not to let this impact the whole bar. Oatein has been generous and thrown in some lovely crunchy pieces to this HYPE bar too, which add a really nice texture contrast. The bar isn’t jam-packed with them, but I think that’s the point – this bar has a lovely fudge-like texture and it’s essential to keep that. Without saying, this bar is obviously going to be sweet due to the caramel, but it really isn’t overly sweet and overpowering. However, I’m not sure how satisfying this bar was to eat just based on the slight aftertaste that comes with it.
Although the salty caramel flavour was lovely and they definitely don’t hold back on the caramel, I don’t believe I would eat another Oatein HYPE Salty Caramel protein bar after this one. For me, the aftertaste stayed in my mouth a little too long.
Oatein is smashing their macros out the park with their new range of HYPE bars and I can’t express enough how low their sugar is! This 60g bar contains 191kcal, 4.9g fat, 21.6g carbs (of which a tiny 1.6g sugar) and an impressive 18g protein. Although their ingredients list is longer than I’d like they have used natural flavourings which is always a positive aspect.
Salty caramel flavours with added oozing caramel. I hope you like caramel!
This Oatein HYPE Salty Caramel protein bar packs a delicious amount of caramel and is pretty comfortable to eat (if you remove that slight aftertaste). I really enjoy how much caramel this bar packs and I would go as far as saying that’s its best feature for sure! On the plus side, this bar is Halal and is advertised on the back of their packet. If you found you were restricted to specific protein bars, this is a decent one for you to consume safely. Again, I’m not too sure on that aftertaste which leaves me asking…
Would I consume this Oatein HYPE Salty Caramel protein bar again? I don’t think so just for the aftertaste alone, but I wish this much caramel was in each protein bar!
