This bar is another attempt from Oatein to make a perfect protein bar. Unfortunately, it looks like they end up just trying. This is another new bar that is nearly perfect in all aspects, except the taste.
Oatein previously produced a good range of protein bars before their new HYPE range and this new range isn’t too bad either. However, this is the last bar from their new range to review and it’s still missing something key, the flavour. I’m still not too sure what they are getting at when they advertise ‘guilt free’. This doesn’t exist? Everything contains calories and macros and products suit individuals differently, but advertising as ‘guilt free’ I think is very farfetched! This specific Oaten HYPE Milk & Cookies protein bar is very similar to their original Cookies & Cream bar (with just more caramel)!
This Oatein HYPE Milk & Cookies Protein bar smells inviting, it’s rich with definite hints of sweet caramel and cookies. It definitely could be more intense, but that being said in no way does this protein bar smell bitter or have a weird aroma. Some protein bars are like bricks (Quest Hero springs to mind). However, this new Oatein range holds together nicely on the outside. Still, being so soft and airy on the inside. They mould to your mouth pleasantly and feel super light on your tongue.
Another HYPE Bar with the same amount of luscious caramel thrown in! Oatein has gone to town!
Although this bar doesn’t have an aftertaste, it’s flavour still isn’t all there. It’s missing something and I think it’s a fact it isn’t strong enough. It’s rich and creamy, and there is a generous coating of couverture milk chocolate coating the bar, but it’s still just not shouting amazing things at me. That being said, this bar is super comfy to eat and doesn’t leave an unpleasant taste in your mouth. For me, they lack the critical element of flavour in this bar and although their generous lashings of caramel may make the bar stand out from the crowd. Therefore, I wouldn’t consume another bar after this one because it isn’t worth it.
The one great thing about the new Oatein HYPE range is their macros. They’ve smashed them out the park and managed to keep their sugar super low too! A standard 60g Oatein HYPE Milk & Cookies protein bar contains 187kcal, 4.8g fat, 21.1g carbs, 17.9g protein and a fantastic 1.7g sugar! Even better than that, every bar in the new HYPE range doesn’t contain any palm oil and does contain natural flavourings. I’ll drink to that!
A half-hearted flavour attempt but the ridiculous amount of oozing caramel slightly makes up for it.
Although this Oatein HYPE Milk & Cookies protein bar is comfortable to eat, it’s just really not unique. They have made a half-hearted attempt at their flavour and although there is no aftertaste, they haven’t made their flavour shout out at all! They have gained positive points for their generous caramel and couverture chocolate, but apart from that, this bar is just so-so.
Would I consume this Oatein HYPE Milk & Cookies protein bar again? Not for me, it’s just missing the key element which doesn’t make me want to return, the flavour!
