New release of Oatein protein flapjacks is already here. With a lower amount of sugar. And a lower amount of flavour. Well, that’s what has happened to this protein flapjack.

Well, Oatein wanted to make a difference. And they did. They released new, lowered sugar flapjacks and that’s the result. Cookies & Cream flavour? It turned out to be worse than before. Cherry Bakewell? As well. Now, it’s time to see if Oatein Flapjack Chocolate Low Sugar protein flapjack is better than the Chocolate Chip flavour one before. Spoiler: it is – a bit.

It starts as always, from the theme flavour and that specific aroma. It’s a combination of flavour and condensed sweetness. It may come from sweeteners, but I’m not sure about it. Anyway, it’s not too inviting for me (but your mileage may vary). Still, a pretty soft on the outside and inside, this protein flapjack is effortless to bite into. Also, it’s just slightly chewy and a bit sticky. But that’s nothing you wouldn’t cope with for sure.

Chocolate and condensed sweetness.

This Oatein chocolate protein flapjack is not too breathtaking when it comes to its flavour. There’s a lot of chocolate aroma in it. And even more of condensed sweetness. The same sweetness you could smell right after unwrapping it. Also, there’s a touch of bitterness in it too. And I guess oats are responsible for that. As a result of that, it’s nothing too flavourish and it’s only middling sweet. Personally, I’m not the greatest fan of this experience, but some might be for sure.

Therefore, one serving of this Oatein protein flapjack is enough for me. Thanks.

When it comes to macros, it’s pretty OK. A 70g flapjack has 246 kcal, 7.8g of fat, 32g of carbs (including only 3.5g of sugar) and a pretty nice 18g of protein. Pretty good. The ingredients list, however, contains palm oil and date syrup. And it’s nothing good for sure.

I guess you may already know that, but let me say that out loud: it can’t be the finest protein flapjack on the go.

A high expectation of low sugar and high flavour.

Oatein Flapjack Chocolate Low Sugar Protein Flapjack

Oatein Flapjack Chocolate Low Sugar Protein Flapjack is an OK-ish protein flapjack. However, nowadays, good macros is not enough to make a significant difference out there. A so-so flavour and pretty poor ingredients – these aspects also do matter. But they are not of high quality here.

Will I ever go back to this Oatein protein flapjack? I wish. However, it’s not overly tasty and the ingredients could be much better, for sure. Therefore, I’m afraid I won’t.
