This protein bar looks like Whipped Bites from Optimum Nutrition. But it’s pretty far from being as good as them. And it’s only barely good.

More and more protein snacks try to find their shape. Optimum Nutrition’s Whipped Bites was one of the firsts in this exact shape. And pretty good in their taste. Nutramino wants to go this way too, but it looks like they forgot about one important thing, the taste. Because this Nutra-Go Cake Bar Double Rich Chocolate turned out to be not too tasty.

Not much suggests it’s going to be not the best show of this cake bar. It smells not bad with two different chocolate flavours somewhat detectable. However, there’s a touch of bitterish whiff too. It’s not a big issue here, but it’s worth to know it. The firmness of this protein bar is pretty OK, both from the outside and inside. That means you shouldn’t have any problem with biting into it. This bar is only slightly chewy and somewhat sticky. But still, it’s nothing you should worry about. On top of that, you might be able to eat it without a sip. Or with a small one now and then.

Sweetish and bitterish. With two different chocolate detectable.

The taste of this protein bar is not terrible. There are two different chocolate flavours detectable. And it’s rather sweet. However, there’s also a bitterish aroma in it. And it’s getting stronger and stronger while eating this bar. So although this bar is somewhat sweet, at the same time, it’s far from being a satisfying one.

Do I want another serving of this Nutra-Go Cake bar after the first one? Not actually. It was sweet, but it was also bitterish. And not satisfying. Therefore, I’m OK with just one bar.

Macro wise, it’s pretty OK. A 57g bar has only 183 kcal, 6.1g of fat, 21g of carbs (including only 1.3g of sugar) and an OK 15g of protein. The ingredients list is somewhat disappointing though, as there’s palm oil among other OK ingredients.

Only OK macros and palm oil in the ingredients means it’s not the finest protein bar on the go.

Nutra-Go (away) protein bar.
