Sticky and chewy with a few scattered peanuts – it’s okay, but average!
This is the first Näno Supps protein bar in their new range and in my opinion, this bar was better than their Cookies & Cream alternative! This protein bar seems to be somewhat average compared to some on the market, but in its defence, it’s definitely not a bad bar, I’ve had much worse! However, with acesulfame K added into the ingredients it’s already going to be knocked down a peg or two!
I was fortunate to smell right where a peanut was scattered, so I did get a lovely waft of rich roasted peanuts. However, when smelling the rest of the bar, you actually can’t smell much caramel or peanuts. It does have a rather sweetish smell to it and I’m not personally sure how natural it smells. But it doesn’t feel off-putting, which is a good start and makes it quite inviting to eat. Along with their other bar, this one has the same rich, chewy texture which has quite a sticky feel to it. It moulds around your mouth and it’s quite pleasant.
‘Chocolate flavour coating’. Basically, not a real chocolate!
As far as protein bars go, there are some amazing and some hideous bars out there. This one falls quite nicely in the middle. It’s not nasty and it’s definitely not out of this world – but it’s a ‘safe’ choice for a protein bar. There is a very slightly bitter taste which can stay with you after consumption, but this wasn’t enough to put me off. I can’t taste the caramel, but you do get salty peanuts hitting your taste buds with every mouthful, as they’re pretty evenly distributed along the top of the bar. I would go as far as saying this bar was comfortable to eat. But personally, it wouldn’t pass as a sweet treat as it doesn’t have that ‘block your arteries’ feeling about it as a Snickers bar does!
This was better than Näno Supps Cookies & Cream flavour protein bar, so in that case, I’d choose this flavour again. But that doesn’t mean I’d be able to eat another one of these bars straight away – it wasn’t that good.
Näno Supps have come up with some very good macros for this bar, even if it’s slightly lighter than the average protein bar. A 58g Näno Supps Salty Peanut Caramel protein bar contains 207kcal, 6.8g fat, 17g carbs (of which 1.7g sugar) and 20.5g protein. They have considered their sugar when building this bar as it’s terrific for people who are having to watch how much sugar they consume.
However, for their sugar to be that low and for this bar to taste so sweet, they’ve had to add an ingredient that I don’t like. Mainly, I mean Acesulfame K. Harmful and unnecessary. Not forgetting their addition of palm oil too! Sorry orangutans, the fitness industry is destroying
A pretty average protein bar with unnecessary added ingredients and no real chocolate. Not excellent, not awful – just average!
Näno Supps as a whole haven’t produced amazing protein bars, only average. For me, it’s potentially been rushed because they wanted to bring something new to the market. I do think the best thing about this bar are the peanuts and the low sugar content. Apart from that, it’s slightly bitter and not amazing. I’d much rather spend my calories and have a Snickers bar and know I’m going to love it! That leaves me with the question…
Would I come back to this Näno Supps Salty Peanut Caramel protein bar again? If I was stuck and had nothing to choose from, maybe. But in an ideal world, nope, sorry, not again. And this is nothing unusual when it comes to Peanut Caramel flavours.
