If you like lemon flavour and you’re after a tiny and plan-based protein snack, then this one might be for you. It’s not perfect compared to the others, but it’s pretty nice on its own. How come?
After not so exciting Peanut Cacao flavour from this range (its review to be up soon!), I was pretty far from felling in love with these tiny bars. You know, it was small, with rather big macros and not overly tasty snack. However, everything has changed with this maximuscle Natural Bar High Plant Protein Zesty Lemon. Yes, it’s still pretty small at 40g, and it has pretty similar macros. But, for a change, it’s a tasty and satisfying tiny snack that won’t blow your macros. I like it.
This maximuscle protein bar smells really nice. Yes, there is a whiff of dates (used as a binder), but there’s also an easily detectable lemon zest aroma. That composition is pleasant and inviting. Also, the bar is pleasantly soft throughout, so no problem with biting into it and eat. The texture of this bar is also something you should not be disappointed, as it’s not much chewy, but only a bit sticky. And its moistness is very good.
Don’t worry about dates, as they’re not noticeable much in the flavour of this protein bar.
Actually, they’re not detectable virtually at all. Instead, you can indulge with lemon zest easily. It’s not too strong, yet flavourish enough. It’s not too deep, but noticeably enough to like it. Also, there’s no weird aroma or aftertaste in this maximuscle protein bar. And plant-based protein doesn’t make any mess in the flavour of this bar. The flavour of this bar is a delightful combination of sweetness and savouriness and it’s refreshing. It’s not super-duper refreshing, rather a pretty obvious refreshing without that nice freshness effect, but it’s still pretty likeable. Eventually, it will make its way as a sweet and satisfying protein snack.
That’s why I wouldn’t mind having another of this maximuscle bar in one sitting. Still, its macros could be a bit better.
This protein bar is pretty small at 40g and it packs 149kcal. Also, there’s only 7.9g (20%) protein and as much as 13.5g of (no added) sugar. These number doesn’t look bad, right? But for a 60g equivalent, these are like this: 225kcal, 12g of protein and roughly 20g of sugar. Anyway, the ingredients list is clear with no added sugar, no palm fat, no syrups.
It’s a pretty nice plant-based protein-ish bar for snacking.
All of that, because you won’t find it super tuned in the matter of macros (that’s the only flaw in this maximuscle Natural Bar High Plant Protein Zesty Lemon protein bar). What you find it, though, is a really nice taste and decently good macros (considering its weight). Anyway, if you’ll look at it as a small snack, then you may like it much. Like I did.
Would I buy it again? Definitely, I would (which gives +0.2 pt to the final score). Especially if I want anything like energy-ish and protein-ish snack bar.
