A ‘traditional’ HI PROTEIN versions of beloved Mars or Snickers bars are OK-ish, the most. They usually lack that delicious sweetness and are full of whey-like aftertaste. But not in this case. This Mars HI PROTEIN Salted Caramel proves you can have a decently tasty protein version of a regular bar. As long as you’re OK with nearly three teaspoons of sugar in it. If you are, then carry on – keep reading to see why this protein bar is not a bad alternative to a regular Mars bar.
Smell. Simply, it smells really good. There’s a strong and decently pleasant salted caramel whiff in this protein bar. It’s deep and aromatic and it’s pretty hard to resist it. Also, the texture of this protein bar is not too bad. It’s nicely soft and easy to bite into it. It’s also pleasant to eat, but it’s noticeably chewy and a bit sticky. Still, if you’d want to get your jaw a bit of warm-up, then it should not bother you at all. In fact, the texture of this protein bar is good, no major issue with it here.
Taste-wise, it’s nearly a perfect alternative to a bar you already know.
Yes, it’s not as devilish sweet as a regular Mars bar. But hey, it’s sweet enough, it’s actually decently sweet, to swap it satisfyingly. The reason for that is there’s a pleasant and delicious aroma of salted caramel in this bar. It’s decently sweet (but not oversweet), it’s loveable and it’s well balanced with saltiness. There’s also no weird aroma or aftertaste in it, which is not so obvious. And overall, it’s well worth to die for. That means it will definitely make its way as a sweet and satisfying protein bar.
Would I want to have another Mars HI PROTEIN Salted Caramel bar right after the first one? I would, but I also remember its macros. So I’m not too sure about it, eventually.
Macros and ingredients are the prices you have to pay for the flavour of this protein bar. As this 59g bar pretty low calories (209kcal) and a really good amount of protein (20g, 33%), it also has as much as 13g of sugar. Also, the ingredients list is terrible with glucose syrup, sugar invert syrup, palm oil and added sugar in it. Oh, well.
This is a great alternative.
Definitely, it is, as a regular Mars has much worse macros (equiv. of 59g means 264kcal, 2.6g of protein, 35.3g of sugar!). All right, ingredients in both are equally dreadful, but that’s the price you have to pay. Along with its much higher price tag. Anyway, if you can’t live without Mars bars, then you definitely should have a look at this one.
Would I buy it again? If I only want a delicious and luscious Salted Caramel bar with as much as 20g of protein, then definitely I would. But it won’t happen every week or month.
