They say it’s ‘moreish’. And I say ‘let’s check this out’. This Macro Munch protein bar is supposed to be decently tasty. And it is. Sort of. Too bad it lacks chocolate flavour. Or am I missing something?
Here it comes, the changes. If you’re confused, then this is the possible explanation. Sometime in August 2019, Macro Munch range has changed its packaging for a new, freshly designed one. The new one you can see with a new flavour of Chunky Chocolate Orange. But still, there are some interesting flavours on the market being sold in the old wrapping. One of them is Macro Munch Moreish Mint Choc Chip Flavour protein bar I’m going to have a closer look at right now. And I’m going to find out if it’s as moreish as they say.
Do not expect anything unusual in the term of the smell. It just OK-ish, as there’s mainly mint aroma in it and virtually no chocolate at all. A bit disappointing. Anyway, a somewhat softish on the outside, this protein bar is a bit less so on the inside. It’s not it’s troublesome to bite into it, but it could be a bit more effortless to eat indeed. Also, it’s a bit chewy and slightly sticky. However, considering its pretty good moistness, ease of eating of this bar shouldn’t be anything you could be worried about.
Trapped in a mint trap. And this is something I’m not too confused about it.
Because you see, mint flavour is a tricky one. It’s pretty easy to make it too strong and cover any other aromas with it. Fortunately, the flavour of this protein bar is not in that unfortunate situation. To be more precise, there is a pretty pleasant mint aroma in this bar. It’s not too strong and it doesn’t flood your taste buds. That’s good. Despite that, it’s still strong enough to cover chocolate flavour in this bar. Hence, their balance could be much better, indeed. Also, there’s no weird aroma or aftertaste, but it’s not a surprise with mint flavour involved. Eventually, the bar itself is not too sweet, but still pretty tasty. However, I wouldn’t call it a satisfying one.
Am I fancy another serving of this Macro Munch Mint protein bar right after the first one? I am not. It wasn’t bad for sure, but it lacks the chocolate flavour badly. And this is nothing you’d expect looking at its packaging.
From the macros point of view, it’s a standard for Macro Munch bars. A 62g snack (that actually weights more than 72g!) has 232 kcal, 9.3g of fat, 16.1g of carbs (including only 2.1g of sugar) and 20g of protein. Not too bad. The ingredients list could be better, though, as it contains palm oil.
Not too moreish, just pretty OK-ish. With a massive deficiency of chocolate flavour.
Macro Munch Moreish Mint Choc Chip Flavour High Protein Bar is not a bad protein bar. It’s not extremely and captivating minty, which is undoubtedly a good thing. At the same time, however, it lacks a chocolate flavour. And that’s the main thing – along with the palm oil in ingredients – I didn’t like in this protein bar.
Will I ever go back to this Macro Munch Moreish protein bar? I don’t think so. It’s pretty OK-ish in taste, but I’m afraid it’s not enough to win that minty competition. Especially with this contestant on the other corner of the protein ring.
