This protein bar promised to be an irresistible one (or at least its flavour). However, after having it, I’ll be pretty resistible to buy it once again. It’s not bad for sure, but there are much, much better options out there.
New packaging design, fresh flavours. And new, much lower scores than before with that. After delicious and lovely in taste Really Rocky Road and Magnificent Millionaires Shortbread flavours, Bulk Powders decided to change something in their Macro Munch bars. And they did it, for worse. Example? Chunky Chocolate Orange flavour that scored overall just slightly higher than 6/10 pts. Now, it’s time for another new flavour with a brand new wrapper, Macro Munch Irresistible Raspberry Cheesecake Soft Baked Protein Bar.
This protein bar smells somewhat sweetish. But not everything is here OK. Firstly, that sweetness is not too sweet, it’s bland. Secondly, there’s not much (I mean, at all) cheesecake aroma in it. And thirdly, as a result of that, it’s not too inviting. Never mind. A somewhat softish on the outside, this protein bar is decently soft on the inside. It’s easy to bite into. Also, it’s middling chewy (not too much) and only a bit sticky. Eventually, it’s pretty comfortable to eat. Nice one.
It’s hard to admit it, but it’s hard candy flavour only.
There’s nothing from a Raspberry Cheesecake flavour in this bar. Instead of that, there’s a hard candy aroma in it. Even so, it’s not either intense or overly sweet. It’s sweet, sort of, but that sweetness is way too condensed. But that’s not the whole story. There’s also a slight touch of bitterness, but some may not notice that (good for them). At the end of the day, this protein bar is nothing it promises in its taste. Therefore, it’s not a satisfying one for a sure.
From the macros point of view, it’s OK-ish. A 62g bar has 228 kcal, 8.7g of fat, 16.1 of carbs (of which 2.9g of sugar) and 20g of protein. Not too bad. However, the ingredients list is like a poem – it’s pretty long, and it contains words you may not understand. These two you will understand, though – it’s palm oil and invert sugar syrup.
Irresistible Raspberry Cheesecake. Not.
It’s something like buying low-quality, mass production sweets. You really want them at some point, but at the end of the day it turns out they were not worth it. And that’s what we’ve got here. It’s so promising looking at its flavour, but there’s nothing that would leave you satisfied. How devastating is it?
Will I ever go back to this Macro Munch protein bar? I will NOT. Its flavour is misleading. And this is the most annoying thing in it (as the other aspects of it are pretty good or acceptably OK-ish).
