There’s never enough of chocolate and orange flavours in protein bars. That’s why a new Macro Munch bar of this flavour caught my attention straight away. And honestly, it was pretty worth to give it a try.

Macro Munch protein bars from Bulk Powders are some kind of bipolar bars. From one hand, Rocky Road and Magnificent Millionaires Shortbread flavours are decently good and well worth to come back to. On the other hand, their ingredients list is sooo looong I started considering buying an encyclopaedia of chemists to decode them. What to do? How to live? Anyway, a new flavour from this range, Macro Munch Chunky Chocolate Orange flavour, just popped out and now we will see if it’s going to join these two flavours I mentioned above.

First thing? It’s not too inviting. The bar smells OK-ish the most. There’s some kind of chocolate and orange aromas, but they both are way too gentle. Therefore, it’s not too inviting. Boo. A pretty tough on the outside, the bar is pleasantly soft on the inside. That means no one should have any problem with biting into it. Also, it’s only a bit chewy and sticky, so again – it’s nothing to be worried about here. Add to that it’s decently moist and you are ready to dive into it with peace of mind.

Not too intense in taste, but still it might be pretty satisfying for many.

The flavour of this Macro Munch protein bar is pretty nice, indeed. There are easily detectable both themed flavours of (a bit less of) chocolate and (a bit more of) orange. Their combination is not too intense for sure, but it’s pleasant and nice. And slightly crunchy. And it’s a bit chilly, which is a result of sweeteners used. Also, no weird aroma or aftertaste here. The bar itself is not overly sweet, but I wouldn’t say it’s a flaw here. The reason for that is the composition of flavours is pretty balanced, and it might be a satisfying protein bar for many, including me.

Do I want another serving of this Macro Munch Chunky Chocolate Orange flavour bar right after the first one? Not much. It was good, it was pretty tasty. But at the same time, it wasn’t that spectacular to say ‘I do want more!’. Therefore, one bar at a time is a reasonable portioning here.

The macro wise is a standard for this range. A 62g bar has pretty OK 228 kcal, 8.7g of fat, 16.1g of carbs (with only 2.9g of sugar) and 20g of protein. And 9.3g of fibre. The ingredients list, however, is a never-ending story. And it contains added sugar, palm fat and glucose-fructose syrup — a bit of shame.

A pretty tasty and satisfying protein bar. But not too stirring after all.

Macro Munch Chunky Chocolate Orange Soft Baked Protein Bar is a pretty lovely protein bar. It’s decently tasty (despite being not too sweet), and it has not bad macros. Also, it’s comfortable to eat, and it has orange chunky on the top (that’s nice!). However, its ingredients list is pretty poor (hey, it’s nearly 2020!) and that’s the reason it scores overall not too high (but still, not too low either).

Will I ever go back to this Macro Munch Chunky Chocolate Orange bar? I’m not too sure. It’s pretty good in taste (but not too intense) and it’s not too sweet (sometimes it’s a good thing definitely). However, that ingredients list puts me slightly off.
