What started off as an appealing mango protein bar, actually got worse the more I ate. Initially, a mango flavour was apparent, but so was a weird bitter flavour too!

This is the first Foodspring protein bar I have reviewed and although it started off well, it didn’t stay that way for long. Anyway, Foodspring is a German-based company who state they offer ‘finest fitness food’. Going by this protein bar, I’m not too sure I can support that tag line. Let’s find out why…

I love mango! So the idea of a mango flavoured protein bar made me very excited! Let alone the macros which came with them (we will talk about that a little later), and it was safe to say this bar couldn’t have arrived any sooner! Try and understand my disappointment when I smelt this bar only to receive no smell that resembled mangos in return! Yes, the outside is tough, but the inner texture becomes soft when you eat it. Although it turns soft in your mouth, I’m not too sure I feel happy about it being there. This bar isn’t sticky or even that chewy, yet it doesn’t feel too pleasant.

This bar claims to have mango pieces, but I can’t find any!

The first bite you take of this bar you feel like you’re getting lovely hints of mango. But the more you carry on eating, the less the mango comes through and the more this weird flavour in your mouth stays. It’s not appealing and actually left me stopping to take a drink before I could carry on eating anymore! I would go as far as saying this bar isn’t comfortable to eat after a few bites and actually becomes quite a job to finish it! I think this Foodspring protein bar was also let down by the fact there was no change in the texture. After a while, it just all became too much the same and wasn’t enjoyable.

I definitely wouldn’t be able to consume another Foodspring Mango Milkshake protein bar after this one as it really wasn’t that pleasant!

The macros are what’s impressive about this bar! A decent 60g bar contains 182kcal, 3.9g fat, 11g carbs (of which 3.8g sugars) and a proper 20g protein. I don’t think you can go wrong with the macros. It’s just a shame the bar wasn’t tasty to eat. Their ingredients list is looking pretty healthy too and they’ve also thrown in natural flavours for good measure!

Even with great macros, I don’t think I’d put myself through that again!

Foodspring Mango Milkshake Protein Bar

I was expecting great things from this protein bar because it sounded delicious! Yet again, I’m left feeling disappointed and deflated! They need to change a lot of things about this bar, mainly the weird flavour which stays in your mouth as you eat it! I am impressed with their macros though as these are great. But I still wouldn’t be tempted to eat another even with how great they are!

Would I eat this Foodspring Mango Milkshake protein bar again? Not for me, sorry! Too much to improve before I’d even consider it again! And it looks like this is not an exception in this range.
