This is most likely the last thing I’d expect from Decathlon. A pretty tasty, own-branded energy bar that does the job perfectly. And it has a pretty comfortable packaging too. Why none of the makers didn’t make it before?

If you have never heard about this brand, Aptonia, then don’t worry, neither have I. This is an own brand of Decathlon, the largest sporting goods retailer in the world according to Wikipedia (interesting, isn’t it?). But it actually doesn’t matter. What’s more important than that (and a huge sport canoe in front of their Coventry branch) is the fact their Ultra Fruit Jellies Citrus energy bars do the job well. Really well. They’re not perfect for sure, but they turned out to be the best energy bars we’ve reviewed so far. And one of two best functional bars as well (along with RXBAR Peanut Butter protein bar). Do you need any more invitation to have a closer look at it?

All right, this energy bar doesn’t smell extraordinary. There’s only a fruit-ish aroma in it and that’s it. Not that you’d expect any flavourish experience while your endorphins are going crazy while you do another P.B. record. However, a bit more of fragrance wouldn’t be bad here. Anyway, this snack is served in the form of jelly, so if you’re crazy about them as I am, then… This energy snack is really soft on the outside and soft on the inside. Therefore, no problem with biting into it. However, it’s barely chewy and sticky. But still, while exercising, you shouldn’t make your water run out, so a sip is enough to wash it down.

A sweet and tasty energy kick. Right when you need it.

This jelly energy bar tastes really good. The citrus flavour is easily detectable, it’s sweet-o-barely-sourish and appetising. It’s pleasant in its flavour, definitely not disturbing. Therefore, it won’t make your intake a horrible right in the middle of your activity. Also, there’s no weird aromas or aftertaste. Hence, it’s pleasant and easy in use. And on the top of that, it’s sweet and satisfying – do you need anything more while training?

Do I want another serving of this Aptonia jelly energy bar after the first bar? I do. And it’s not because it only weighs 25g per bar. It’s also sweet and tasty. And it’s in the form of jelly. I like it.

Let’s have a closer look at its macros now. As it’s a pretty small bar, the maker recommends eating one of it for every 30 minutes of exercise. And as an average workout lasts for about 1 hour, I’ll take into consideration two of these while reviewing its macros, to cover an average need of energy while exercising. So here it is. Two of these bars (50g all together) has 166 kcal, less than 1g of fat, 42g of carbs (including 34g of sugar) and again less than 1g of protein. Right on the spot! The ingredients list contains fruit pulps (50%), sugar and wheat glucose syrup. Not too bad.

Can it be the finest energy bar on the go? It can. And it is! Yes, this is the first finest energy bar on the go in our reviews. It means you can take it with yourself and be sure it does what it promises perfectly. In this case, it provides you with extra energy without any unnecessary extras like too much fat or protein.

This is it. The finest energy bar on the go that does the job perfectly.

I didn’t expect it. I didn’t expect to find Decathlon branded energy bars in this store. And I didn’t expect it to be the finest energy bar on the go. But here it is, Aptonia Ultra Fruit Jellies Citrus Energy Bar. It’s in the form of jelly, it tastes really good, it provides pure energy and it’s easy to eat two of them. Do you need more arguments to give it a try?

Will I ever go back to this Aptonia energy bar? Definitely, I will. It does the job perfectly. And it’s tasty. And it’s damn cheap. A pack of 5 costs £2.99, which means a serving of 2 of them lasting for 1 hour-long training costs less than £1.20. Could it be even better? If you think so, then have a look at another worth coming back to energy bar from this range.

P.S. And last, but not least. Just look at that packaging. It’s effortless to open it. At least, I have never found anything like that in other energy bars. And the last thing you need while extremely tired is fighting with your booster.
