This is a delicious and satisfying protein bar. And I could even recommend it. But there’s the one thing that makes it a bit difficult for me. The ingredients in this protein bar. But if you don’t mind them…
If you’re not sure what Aptonia brand is, this is a quick reminder. It’s an own brand of Decathlon, the largest sporting good retailer in the world (according to Wikipedia). They already have a superb energy bar in their portfolio, Ultra Fruit Jellies Citrus. And now it’s time for their After Sprot Protein Bar in Caramel Flavour. A decently good protein bar. At least as long as you don’t mind the ingredients in it.
Anyway, this caramel flavour protein bar is really tempting. It smells extraordinary, with a caramel flavour easily detectable. Also, it’s pretty soft both on the outside and inside. And although it’s somewhat chewy, it’s not sticky at all. Also, its moistness is on the spot. All that means it’s easy and comfortable to eat. Therefore, no worries if you have nothing to drink at your hand.
A pretty tasty and satisfying protein bar.
If there’s any reason you don’t like caramel in its natural form, chances are you’ll love this protein bar. It tastes exactly like caramel. Its flavour is deep and sweet (but not too sweet). It also has a barely detectable, but charming chocolate touch. Besides that, there’s no weird aroma or aftertaste. That makes it really tasty and highly palatable. Also, a satisfying one. And all of that in the handy form of a protein bar. Pretty nice.
Do I want another serving of this Aptonia protein bar after the first one? Definitely! It’s tasty, it’s sweet and it’s effortless to eat. Could I even ask for more?
A quick look at the macros of this bar says it all. It’s pretty lean and, unfortunately, a bit underpowered. A 40g bar contains 161 kcal, 5.1g of fat, 18g of carbs (including a bit largish 12g of sugar) and only 11g of protein. It could be better (a hint: less sugar, more protein). And as the macros are not so terrible, the ingredients list definitely is. This protein bar contains added sugar, palm fat, glucose syrup and fructose syrup. Not too good, indeed.
Therefore, it definitely can’t be the finest protein bar on the go.
A decently tasty protein snack. With some not-too-good things inside.
This Aptonia After Sport Protein Bar Caramel Flavour is a decently good protein bar (unlikely this one from the range). At least when it comes to its ease of eating, taste and texture. It’s highly palatable, easy to eat and you don’t need anything else to wash it down. On the other side, it could have slightly better macros and definitely healthier ingredients. Therefore, it’s not so easy to recommend it.
However, sometimes, numbers don’t matter at all. And in this case, it’s like that. And that’s the reason there are chances I will go back to this protein bar. Especially, it only costs 99p. For that price, it’s hard to expect both super-duper ingredients and a decently tasty bar. But somehow, you get at least one of it here. That’s why it’s worth to give it a try, despite its not-the-best ingredients.
