Well, how about ‘nope’?. I say ‘no’ to (not only) protein snacks that are not too comfortable to eat. And this Protein Indulgence bar is like that. Moreover, it’s not the tastiest one too. Could it go even worse?
Another Protein Indulgence bar, another setback. Same as with the other three flavours from this range we reviewed so far. None of them scored overall more than 6.0/10 pts, and it means something. And it looks like this Protein Indulgence Milk Choc Caramel Flavour Crisp protein bar will not make it better. Too bad, as the idea of crispy protein bar is pretty exciting. However, the execution, in this case, is not too good.
Everything starts promisingly. This protein bar has a pleasant smell with all primary flavours, milk chocolate and caramel, easily detectable. Yes, it could be a bit more intense, but no worries – even now it’s inviting and tempting. What is much less, however, is its texture. This snack is extremely tough on the outside, which means it’s pretty uncomfortable to bite into it. It’s much better, though, once you’ll do that, as this bar is nicely softish and crunchy on the inside. Also, it’s virtually not chewy at all, being only barely sticky. And its moistness is really OK.
Flavourish protein disaster at its finest.
This is confusing. This protein bar tastes lovely. At least when it comes to its flavours. Both milk chocolate and caramel are noticeable and pleasant, although they could be a bit more aromatic, considering the combination of these two flavours can be spectacular. However, there is also a pretty unpleasant bitterish kick in it. It’s so strong it ruins the overall experience when it comes to the flavour of this bar. In other words, it’s not tasty. Also, this bar would be somewhat sweet, but that bitterness makes a mess here. Hence, forget about it being a satisfying protein bar.
Do I want another serving of this Indulgence Milk Choc Caramel protein bar right after the first one? Not at all. It’s not effortless to eat. And it’s not tasty at all. Do you need more arguments?
When it comes to macros, they are not too bad. A 50g bar only has 200 kcal, 9.2g of fat, 17.5g of carbs (including less than 2g of sugar) and 15.2g of protein. Not too bad. The ingredients list is not that bad, but it could be slightly better, as it contains maltitol syrup.
A bitterish and not too tasty indulgence. And it’s not what we want in protein snacks, right?
Applied Nutrition Protein Indulgence Milk Choc Caramel Flavour Crisp High Protein Low Sugar Bar. Nope. And I could end up here. However, let’s make it properly. So here it goes: not too comfortable to eat. Not too tasty. And it could have better macros. How about ‘forget about it’ then?
Will I ever go back to this Indulgence Protein bar? No chances for that. For the reasons above. But, for a change, it’s not so obvious with this flavour.
